Greenwich Smart & Resilient Neighbourhoods
Delivering smarter and more sustainable neighbourhoods
We were commissioned by the Royal Borough of Greenwich to help them articulate a vision and roadmap to deliver smarter, more sustainable and future-proofed neighbourhoods in Greenwich.
“Our cities and communities are facing and experiencing important challenges and drivers of change.”
The role of DG Cities
Following consultations with the Housing department, we developed a blueprint for Smart and Resilient Neighbourhoods as well as a framework and roadmap for its implementation in Greenwich.
In addition to articulating the council’s vision for the future of Greenwich neighbourhoods we looked at practical considerations, such as data driven strategies and infrastructure that would enable council teams to share data more efficiently and have a more accurate understanding of neighbourhoods.
Finally, we developed a decision making framework to improve placemaking through physical and digital interventions at different spatial scales – from people’s individual homes, to buildings, streets and districts – and across different sectors.
Why is this work important?
Our cities and communities are facing and experiencing important challenges and drivers of change e.g. globalisation, digitisation, climate change, the current global Covid-19 pandemic, demographic changes (growing and ageing population) and pressures on infrastructure, space, services and public finances.
These challenges are impacting the way we live, work and interact with each other and our environments. It is vital therefore that we rethink how we design, plan, build and manage our neighbourhoods, infrastructure, services, and engagement with communities to deliver truly citizen centric, sustainable, resilient and vibrant urban contexts. This is at the core of what we do at DG Cities.
