Greenwich Energy Reduction Trial

DG Cities has partnered with the Royal Borough of Greenwich to offer free monitoring technology to participants in a trial project, which aims to help council tenants monitor energy bills this winter. Participants will receive a FREE energy monitor (worth £200), useful energy-saving tips and can join our online energy community.

Key information

You will receive an energy monitor that will be installed into your fuse box to monitor how much electricity you use. This monitor is paired with an app on your phone that will provide you with information about energy use in your home.

Here is a video of how the monitor works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oe-jlHInQHA

As well as the monitor and app, you will also become part of our Energy Community and receive useful information and 'tips and tricks' about saving energy in your home.

What do I need to do?

Please complete this short survey to register your interest - it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes:  https://www.research.net/r/NJ779X9

The DG Cities team will then get in touch with you with more details.

What are the benefits of taking part?

  • Potentially reduce your energy usage

The trial involves installing an energy monitor that shows you a breakdown of how much energy each of your devices is using: e.g. the fridge, freezer, washing machine, TV, hairdryer - basically, anything that is plugged in. You can find out which devices are on standby or can be switched off, which are inefficient and may need replacing, and other useful insights. You will also receive tailored recommendations on how to use less energy.

  • Get a free energy monitor

If you decide, after the 6 month trial, that you like the monitor, you can keep it, free of charge. The Royal Borough of Greenwich electrical team will install it for you, and uninstall it if you decide at any point that you do not want an energy monitor. You do not need to pay for anything.

  • Help trial new technology to reduce carbon emissions

This project aims to contribute to meeting Greenwich's environmental targets. Through this trial, we want to understand whether smart technology like energy monitors can reduce carbon emissions. You will be contributing to valuable research that can play a part in helping Greenwich reach Net Zero by 2030.
